This article called “Once the World’s Most Dangerous City, Juárez Returns to Life”, was written by Sam Quinones for the National Geographic Magazine in June, 2016. The author here talks about how Juárez got into the center of the Drug War. In 1996, Mexicans wanted to cross to Texas looking for their "American Dream", but then they realized that Mexico's economy was increasing, so they stood there to see Juárez growing chaotically. Nevertheless the authorities did not notice that while the economy was growing, most of the people were getting poorer. That is the reason why the kids grew in the street and the drug gangs, little by little, took the control of the city. There were many crimes like: murders, kidnapping, rapes and obviously drug traffic, but the majority of them were not punished because there were not enough investigation. The police of the city were too afraid to do their job. In 2011, the police created an anti-extortion squad, but it didn’t work, because drug dealers were intelligent; they found different ways to make people keep silent about them, like giving enough amount of money. That is why there were no way to stop the increasement of the crime. And as we could read, this article describes through the people experiences, the reality of living in one of the most dangerous cities of the world.
